"..in mid-february 1970, Tramp apparently left the club at about the same time he left his earthly life. Knowledgeable club friends told me that at least one member was down on him because narcotic paraphernalia was found in his house. On St. Valentine's Day, Tramp died as German had died, of an overdose of downers. The death was a strange one, simple on the surface yet highly suspicious to those of us close to the club.
The Alamdeda County coroner's office reported that John Terrance Tracy, born 12-21-39, a native of Michigan, died at age 30. Last ocuppation: two years of self employment. Cause of death: 'suspected suicide' with Seconal, a euphemism for saying there is no certainty about who administered the overdose. 'Reportedly a former member of Hell's Angels, this man was recently expelled from the organization' said a report, lendinng credence to the theory that Tramp didn't do himself in. 'The afternoon of 2-13-70, he called his common-law wife and told her he had gotten enough courage to commit suicide and was going to take Nembutal. On her arrival at the home (1060 Underhill Road), she found him unconscious, and together with a friend took him to Highland Hospital where he was admitted to emergency at 20:17. There a barbiturate level of 3.1 was found...'
A hint of a different scenario came a day later. The phone rang and one ranking member told me, "We've got something for you to listen to."\
Another member came on the line and barked 'Now hear this.' Then came a tape recording of a man gasping, coughing, choking though on vomit or blood or wine or something, seemingly fighting for his life. It had to be Tramp. The choking stopped abruptly and the receiver clicked leaving me alone.."
